TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) on Wednesday (March 5) issued an extremely heavy rain alert for the mountainous areas of Taichung City. The warning, which remains in effect until the night, highlights the potential for severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusts.
The CWA noted that as a front moves across Taiwan, combined with the influence of the northeast monsoon, widespread rainfall is expected from central to northern Taiwan and northeastern and eastern regions. The probability of heavy rain is exceptionally high in the mountainous areas of northern Taiwan, including the north coast of Keelung, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County.
The heavy rain alert also extends to the mountainous regions of Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Hualien County. CWA has urged the public to remain vigilant, warning of potential short-term heavy rain, lightning strikes, and strong gusts. They advised those engaging in outdoor activities to prioritize safety.
