TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists forecasted a cold front to bring chilly temperatures and scattered rain across Taiwan this week. The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported on Sunday (Jan. 12) that Monday and Tuesday will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, with only sporadic rain in Hualien (花蓮) and Taitung (台東). Daytime highs will rise to 18-22 degrees Celsius, but nighttime lows will dip to 14-16°C.
The cold front will move south Tuesday night, bringing increased rain to windward areas and a higher chance of precipitation in southern and central mountainous regions. Northern Taiwan will experience cooler weather with highs around 16°C, while central Taiwan and Hualien will see highs near 20°C. Southern Taiwan will reach approximately 22°C. Lows will remain around 14-16°C Wednesday night.
The CWA also noted that on Thursday, the cold front will continue to affect Taiwan. Scattered morning rain will occur in the western half, but moisture will gradually decrease throughout the day. Northern and eastern Taiwan will see highs of 16-18°C, while central and southern regions will reach 20-22°C. Lows will stay between 14-16°C.
The WeatherRisk (天氣風險) added that by Saturday, the northeast monsoon will further weaken, leading to clearer and more comfortable weather across much of Taiwan. Temperatures in the north and northeast will rise to 19-20°C, with central and southern regions reaching 21-23°C.
