TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front has brought chilly temperatures across Taiwan, with the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reporting that on Tuesday (Jan. 7), Matsu experienced temperatures between 11 and 12 degrees Celsius. Other regions also felt the nip in the air, particularly during the morning and evening.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) explained that the lack of moisture and significant radiative cooling will cause temperatures to drop across Taiwan tonight and tomorrow morning. He noted this morning's lowest temperature of 5.7 degrees in Sanwan Township (三灣), Miaoli, with several areas, including Hsinchu, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, and Tainan, recording temperatures below 10 degrees.
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), another weather expert, highlighted that Miaoli set a new record for the lowest temperature on the main island this winter at 4.2 degrees as of 6:12 a.m. He mentioned the clear and stable weather today, with cooler conditions in the north and comfortable temperatures in the central and southern regions. Tomorrow, the western half will see similar weather, while the eastern half might experience occasional rain.
Wu warned that from Thursday to Monday morning, cold air will intensify, bringing noticeable rain to the north and east, with northern temperatures peaking at just 13 degrees on Friday. He added that conditions will improve from next Monday to Tuesday, as the cold air weakens and temperatures gradually rise, though mornings and evenings will remain cool.
