TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported on Monday (Dec. 9) that the weakening northeast monsoon will lead to slightly warmer temperatures across Taiwan. Northern regions, along with Yilan and Hualien, will see temperatures between 19°C and 23°C, while central and southern parts, as well as Taitung, can expect 24°C to 27°C.
In the morning, the northeast monsoon will still influence the weather, causing cooler temperatures. Areas from central Taiwan northward and in the northeast will range from 14°C to 17°C, and Hualien, Taitung, and southern regions will experience 17°C to 20°C. Daytime temperatures in Penghu will hover around 19°C to 22°C, with Kinmen at 14°C to 20°C and Matsu from 12°C to 16°C.
The CWA noted that northern areas, including Taoyuan and Yilan, will have brief showers, and Hualien and Taitung may see scattered rain, although moisture will decrease as the day progresses. Keelung's north coast and northeastern regions face a higher chance of rain, while Hualien, Taitung, and the greater Taipei mountainous areas will have sporadic showers. Meanwhile, central and southern Taiwan will experience mostly cloudy to sunny weather.
The CWA warned of strong gusts, ranging from force 8 to 9, along coastal areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, Hengchun Peninsula, Lanyu, Green Island, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Coastal and island areas may see waves between 2 to 3 meters high, with a risk of long waves along Keelung's north coast and the eastern coast. The CWA advised caution for seaside activities and maritime operations.
