TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) warned on Thursday (Oct. 24) that northern and eastern Taiwan face heavy rain due to the northeast monsoon and Typhoon Trami's (潭美) outer circulation.
The areas most affected include the north coast of Keelung (基隆), Greater Taipei (大台北), eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), with prolonged and significant rainfall expected.
The CWA advised residents, particularly in the north coast of Keelung, Greater Taipei mountains, and the Yilan (宜蘭) and Hualien (花蓮) mountainous areas, to carry rain gear and prioritize safety due to the high probability of heavy rain. Other regions will experience stable weather, ranging from sunny to cloudy conditions.
Temperatures in northern Taiwan will remain cool and damp, with daytime highs between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius. Other areas will enjoy warmer conditions, with temperatures reaching 28-32°C during the day and lows between 21 and 24°C, providing a comfortable and warm feel.
Typhoon Trami, located 530 kilometers south-southeast of Cape Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻) as of 2 a.m., is moving westward, passing through Luzon and entering the South China Sea. The CWA expects heavy rain in windward areas before dawn on Friday, with the potential for torrential rain in northern and eastern mountain regions and the north coast.
Taitung County Government (台東縣政府) reported that Lanyu (蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島) have met the criteria for work and school suspension, citing safety concerns. Authorities announced the suspension of work and classes from noon onward.
