TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan will likely see a surge in temperatures across Taiwan next week, with highs potentially exceeding 30 degrees Celsius in northern and eastern regions, evoking an autumn heatwave, according to the latest data.

WeatherRisk (天氣風險公司) analyst Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) on Friday (Oct. 11) reported a morning low of 17.6 degrees in Miaoli Sanyi Township (苗栗三義), influenced by the northeast monsoon and radiative cooling.

Wu anticipates the northeast monsoon will impact Taiwan until Saturday, bringing mostly cloudy to clear skies and stable weather patterns to most areas. Residents should prepare for the fluctuating weather conditions and be mindful of the temperature swings.

On Friday, northern and eastern Taiwan will see daytime highs of 26 to 28°C, while central and southern regions may reach 31 to 33°C, highlighting a significant temperature disparity between north and south.

Wu cautioned that nighttime and early morning temperatures in open areas of central and northern Taiwan, as well as the northeast, could drop to around 20 degrees due to radiative cooling, resulting in considerable day-night temperature variations.

He added that the next round of intensified northeast monsoon activity may not occur until the weekend of Oct. 19 to 20, potentially bringing changes to windward regions and a chance for cooler temperatures.
