TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) has announced that, due to the influence of a southern cloud system moving north, Thursday (Jan. 2) will see increased cloud cover and higher chances of rainfall across Taiwan. The areas most likely to experience significant rainfall include the northern coast of Keelung (基隆) and the mountainous regions of western Taiwan.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) highlighted that the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model predicts the northeast monsoon will cause intermittent showers across Taiwan. Wu noted that the mountainous regions could see heavier rain, with daytime temperatures feeling cool and colder conditions in the early morning and evening. Temperatures will range from 13-19 degrees Celsius in the north, 14 -21°C in central Taiwan, 16 to 24°C in the south, and 15-23°C in the east.
The northeast monsoon will continue to influence Taiwan's weather through Friday and Saturday, with clearer skies expected in western Taiwan, while brief showers may occur in the Greater Taipei area's east side and eastern Taiwan. On Sunday, forecasters expect the northeast monsoon to weaken, bringing warmer temperatures. Next week, a strong cold air mass is projected to move southward, bringing dry and cold weather from Monday through Saturday. This cold air could lead to temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in some lowland areas, potentially triggering a cold weather alert.
