TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A strengthening northeast monsoon will bring cooler weather to northern and northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday (Dec. 31). Scattered showers will affect eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula, while other areas will remain mostly cloudy, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署).
The CWA explained that on New Year's Day, the northeast monsoon will weaken slightly. Clouds moving northward will bring brief showers to Keelung's north coast, Greater Taipei, eastern regions, the Hengchun Peninsula, and western mountainous areas on Wednesday, with scattered showers elsewhere.
Brief showers will occur in Keelung's north coast, northeastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula, with a chance of heavier rain in northeastern areas by Thursday. The northeast monsoon will strengthen again on Friday, bringing cooler weather to northern and northeastern Taiwan.

The weekend will see continued cooling in northern and northeastern Taiwan, with brief showers in Keelung's north coast, eastern regions, and Greater Taipei's mountainous areas.
WeatherRisk (天氣風險) cautioned that from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day morning, open areas in central and northern Taiwan could see temperatures drop to 12-14 degrees Celsius. In southern Taiwan and Hualien and Taitung, temperatures may fall to 14-16 degrees.
