TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists predict a shift on Monday (Dec. 30) in Taiwan's weather pattern as a new wave of northeast monsoon approaches tomorrow, potentially bringing rain to northern and eastern regions. WeatherRisk (天氣風險公司) analyst Wu Sheng-yu (吳聖宇) noted the increased likelihood of welcoming 2025 under cloudy skies, with rainfall expected in Taipei, Yilan, and Hualien.
Analyst Ou Zong-xue (歐宗學) observed a noticeable rise in temperatures this morning compared to the previous day. The lowest temperature recorded in New Taipei's Shiding was 11.9 degrees Celsius, with most areas experiencing milder conditions between 12 and 14°C. Despite the warmer start, the abundance of clouds could slow daytime warming, maintaining a relatively cool environment.
The incoming northeast monsoon will bring scattered showers mainly to windward areas such as Keelung's north coast, Greater Taipei's mountainous regions, and the eastern half of Taiwan. The western half should prepare for changing weather patterns, as southern cloud systems move northward, leading to overcast skies by the afternoon and evening, with isolated showers near mountainous areas.
Apart from weather changes, air quality remains a concern. Forecasts indicate potential impacts from external pollution sources. Combined with increased moisture and fireworks smoke at night, this could elevate particulate matter levels in some areas. Those planning outdoor activities should consider personal health precautions.
