TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported Monday (Dec. 30) that temperatures in northern Taiwan and Yilan (宜蘭) dropped to 13-15 degrees Celsius, while other regions experienced lows of 16-18 degrees. In areas near mountains, temperatures fell an additional 1-2 degrees, marking a chilly start to the day.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) noted that daytime temperatures rose compared to the previous day, with Taipei and Hualien (花蓮) reaching 20-23°C. He also predicted that New Year's Eve would see temperatures drop due to a strengthening northeast monsoon, bringing lows of 13-15°C in the north and 15-17°C in central and southern Taiwan.
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), another weather expert, warned of increased northeastern winds and moisture on New Year's Eve, leading to occasional brief showers in eastern regions. He added that western Taiwan would remain clear and stable, although scattered rain might occur in mountainous areas. On New Year's Day, Wu expects mid-level clouds to cover the region, with sporadic rain in the mountains and eastern parts, and a growing chance of rain in western lowlands.
Wu also mentioned that from Thursday to Saturday, another cold air mass will move southward, although it will be weaker than the current one. This will bring continued cloud cover and a likelihood of rain in mountainous and eastern areas, with temperatures gradually decreasing.
