TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) on Friday (Dec. 27) forecasted cooler conditions for New Year's Eve, with temperatures remaining low in northern and northeastern Taiwan on New Year's Day. The administration reported that western Taiwan will enjoy sunny weather during the day. A strong continental cold air mass reached Taiwan Friday, bringing chilly conditions. Although this cold air mass will weaken starting Sunday, the administration warned that radiative cooling will keep mornings and evenings cold on Sunday and Monday.
According to the CWA, the northeast monsoon will slightly strengthen on Dec. 31. After nightfall, temperatures in central and northern regions, as well as northeastern Taiwan, will drop to 13 to 14 degrees Celsius, while southern regions and Hualien and Taitung will experience temperatures between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius. The windward areas, including Keelung's north coast, eastern regions, and the mountainous areas of Greater Taipei, will see brief showers on Tuesday. Other regions will experience increased cloud cover.
The administration predicted that cooler weather will persist in northern and northeastern Taiwan on New Year's Day and Thursday due to the northeast monsoon, with other areas also experiencing cooler mornings and evenings. Despite the cooler temperatures on New Year's Day, western regions will mostly see sunshine. Keelung’s north coast, eastern regions, and the Greater Taipei mountain areas may experience brief showers, while other areas will have cloudy weather.
Residents should prepare for the cooler conditions and potential showers as they plan their New Year celebrations.
