TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a cold weather alert Friday (Dec. 20) for 10 counties and cities across Taiwan due to a continental cold air mass. The administration recorded the lowest temperature at 9.6 degrees Celsius in Chiayi City, marking a notably chilly morning.
Meteorologists observed temperatures around 10°C or below in New Taipei City and Yilan County. Other areas such as Miaoli County, Changhua County, Nantou County, Chiayi City, Tainan City, Hualien County, Taitung County, and Kinmen County could also experience similar cold conditions.
The administration noted temperatures of 9.7°C in Zhongliao (中寮), Nantou County, and 9.9°C in Tahe (大河), Miaoli County. Kinmen County recorded the lowest temperature at 8.9°C among the outlying islands. Northern and central regions and Yilan faced lows between 12 to 14°C, while southern regions and Hualien and Taitung experienced 13 to 15°C.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise slightly as the cold air weakens, with highs reaching 17 to 18°C in northern Taiwan and 21 to 23°C in other regions. Night temperatures will range from 14 to 17°C, Penghu from 16 to 18°C, and Kinmen and Matsu from 11 to 18°C.
