TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Radiative cooling has prompted Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA,中央氣象局) to issue a cold weather advisory for nine counties and cities on Tuesday (Dec. 17). Temperatures across Taiwan have dipped significantly, with the western and northeastern regions experiencing lows between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius.
The CWA noted a chance of temperatures falling below 10 degrees Celsius in Hsinchu County (新竹縣), Miaoli County (苗栗縣), Taichung City (臺中市), Changhua County (彰化縣), Nantou County (南投縣), Yunlin County (雲林縣), Chiayi City (嘉義市), Chiayi County (嘉義縣), and Hualien County (花蓮縣). An approaching continental cold air mass will further influence the weather, increasing the likelihood of rain in the Taipei metropolitan area starting tonight.
The cold air mass will bring cooler weather to the north and northeast, with scattered showers expected along windward areas like Keelung's north coast (基隆北海岸), Yilan and Hualien (宜花), and the Greater Taipei area (大臺北地區) on Wednesday and Thursday. By Thursday, mid-level moisture will expand the rainfall to include Taoyuan (桃園) and mountainous regions in the west.
Temperatures will vary, with northern and northeastern Taiwan expecting 11-17°C, central regions 12-23°C, southern areas 14-25°C, and eastern Taiwan 14-20°C. The Penghu Islands (澎湖) will see 15-19°C, while Kinmen (金門) and Matsu (馬祖) brace for 11-18°C and 8-13°C, respectively.
