TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Metro (台北捷運) has announced a 42-hour continuous service from 6 a.m. on Dec. 31 to midnight on Jan. 1 to accommodate the New Year's Eve crowd. This measure aims to manage the influx of attendees heading to the Taipei City Hall Square (台北市府廣場) countdown event and Taiwanese pop star A-mei's (張惠妹) concert at the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋).
To ease congestion, Taipei Metro will offer free rides from Nanjing Sanmin Station (南京三民站) and Taipei Arena Station (台北小巨蛋站) on the Songshan-Xindian Line (松山新店線). The Station Operations Division's (北捷站務處) Deputy Director Teng Jin-di (鄧金地) urged passengers to avoid the crowded Bannan Line (板南線), specifically Taipei City Hall Station (台北市政府) and Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station (國父紀念館).
Teng predicted that waiting times on the Bannan Line could extend until around 3 a.m. He also noted that this year's passenger volume might exceed 3 million, surpassing previous years. With Taipei Metro's strategic service and fare adjustments, officials aim to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for revelers. As the city gears up for the celebrations, officials encourage attendees to plan their journeys and utilize the available incentives. Taipei Metro hopes to enhance the overall experience for everyone joining the festivities by strategically managing passenger flow and offering free rides at key stations.
