TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Severe weather conditions were expected as a front moves across Taiwan, affecting areas from Chiayi northward, Hualien, and Penghu on Tuesday (March 4), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署).
The CWA issued an updated heavy rain advisory, highlighting the potential for localized downpours, lightning, and strong gusts. The advisory includes Keelung's north coast, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, Yilan's mountainous regions, Hualien, and Penghu.
Meanwhile, the CWA announced an immediate severe thunderstorm alert for nine counties, urging caution against intense rainfall, lightning, hail, and rising river levels. It also predicted another wave of rain will impact northern Taiwan later in the day, with the possibility of thunderstorms or hail.
Weather experts from "TyTech Taiwan" (台灣颱風論壇|天氣特急) noted that a powerful thunderstorm band is moving eastward from the South China coast. They anticipate it will reach Taiwan's skies by Tuesday night, increasing the risk of severe weather through Wednesday.
