TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported on Wednesday (Feb. 12) that Taiwan and its outlying islands, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, face unstable weather due to a passing front and a cloud system moving north, with scattered showers and localized heavy rain forecasted throughout the region.

Rainfall is expected to intensify after nightfall, with Keelung's north coast, the eastern regions, and the central and southern mountainous areas likely to experience heavy rain. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) mentioned that the European model (ECMWF) simulation indicates that moisture from a "South China Sea disturbance" will move northward on Wednesday, which coincides with the Lantern Festival, expanding rainfall coverage across Taiwan.

The CWA advises that another front will pass over the weekend, bringing brief scattered showers to the north and east, with isolated short-lived rain in the central and southern mountainous areas.

By Sunday, the northeast monsoon will strengthen, or a continental cold air mass will move southward, cooling the north and northeast and causing cooler mornings and evenings in other regions.

On Friday, the northeast monsoon will cool northern Taiwan, reducing moisture from the "South China Sea disturbance" and resulting in occasional brief showers. The northeast monsoon will weaken on Saturday, causing a temporary rise in temperatures before another front passes over the northern sea, bringing occasional rain to the north and east.

On Sunday, the northeast monsoon will turn dry, leading to sunny weather in the western half and isolated rain in the east, with a temperature drop. The following Monday, the weather will stabilize with clear skies, though temperatures will be low in the mornings and evenings, necessitating close monitoring of weather system changes.
