TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold air mass has gripped Taiwan, causing temperatures to drop below 10 degrees Celsius in some areas on Monday (Feb. 24), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). The CWA forecasts that these chilly conditions will persist into Tuesday morning, urging residents to stay warm as temperatures vary significantly from day to night.
On Monday morning, temperatures ranged from 11 to 14 degrees Celsius across the island, with northern Taiwan peaking at just 17 degrees. In contrast, central and southern regions may see highs between 21 and 23 degrees. The CWA reports scattered showers along the Keelung north coast and eastern areas, while skies remain mostly cloudy to clear elsewhere.
The CWA predicts a reprieve from the cold air mass on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to rise above 20 degrees in the north. Although moisture will decrease, isolated showers may continue in the eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula, while other areas enjoy partly cloudy to clear conditions.
As the week progresses, a weather system from southern China may bring rain to the north and Yilan on Wednesday and Thursday. These regions will experience cooler mornings and evenings, with daytime temperatures ranging from 14 to 23 degrees.
Looking ahead to the long weekend starting Friday, the CWA anticipates no cold air intrusion. Temperatures will range from 14 to 26 degrees across the island, with a higher chance of rain in the eastern half.
