TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold air mass from China will bring a significant drop in temperatures across Taiwan on Wednesday (Jan. 15), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署). The northern and northeastern regions will experience a temperature decrease of 6-7 degrees Celsius, while other areas will see a drop of 2-4°C. The coldest period is expected on Thursday morning and evening.
CWA forecaster Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) explained that a continental cold air mass began moving south last night. This cold front will continue to affect the region until Friday morning, bringing wet conditions initially and dry weather later. The cold air will lead to low temperatures of 8-9°C in Matsu (馬祖) and Kinmen (金門), 11-12°C in northern and northeastern Taiwan, and 13°C in the south. Coastal and mountainous areas may experience even lower temperatures.
Wu indicated that daytime temperatures will rebound on Friday as the cold air mass weakens, with a notable temperature difference exceeding 10°C between day and night in central and southern regions. As the cold wave subsides, the CWA urged residents to be prepared for fluctuating temperatures and stay informed about potential weather changes in the coming days.
