TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A continental cold air mass has begun to move southward, causing temperatures across Taiwan to drop significantly by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. A weather expert reported on Monday (Jan. 6) that northern and eastern regions will experience wet and cold conditions, with temperatures expected to fall further to 11-13°C by Thursday.
Taiwan will remain under the influence of the cold air mass throughout the week, with temperatures in the north and northeast dropping to lows of 11-13°C. The rest of the island will also see cooler temperatures, ranging from 12-16°C. The weather will generally be cloudy to sunny, with occasional short-lived rain in eastern regions and the Hengchun Peninsula.
The northeastern winds have intensified, bringing 8 to 9-grade gusts to coastal areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, including Lanyu, Green Island, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Residents and workers in these areas should exercise caution. The cold front, initially dry, will become more humid towards the weekend, with scattered showers expected in the north, east, and central mountain regions by Thursday.
Strong sea winds, reaching 9 to 10-grade gusts, pose safety concerns for coastal operations, especially in areas like Taoyuan, Tainan, Lanyu, Green Island, Penghu, and Matsu. Additionally, on Thursday and Friday, there is a chance of snow in high mountain areas above 3,000 meters in northern and central Taiwan.
