TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A cold front and northern cloud system have brought wet and chilly weather to Taiwan on Wed (Jan. 15), prompting the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) to issue a land warning for strong winds. Some areas could experience gusts reaching level 10, according to the CWA.
Taipei City experienced a drastic temperature drop from 24.4 degrees at noon on Tuesday to a high of only 16 degrees the next day. The CWA noted that coastal and open areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, Penghu, Matsu, Green Island, and Orchid Island, might face winds of level 9 to 10.
Keelung's north coast, the east, and southeast coastal regions, along with Kinmen, could also encounter strong gusts. Forecasts predict sporadic short-term rain in the north and eastern regions due to the cold front moving south, with similar conditions expected in the southern and central mountainous areas.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) highlighted the increased cloud cover and higher chances of rain, with temperatures remaining low. Lin advised that while the cold front will persist on Thursday, the weather will shift from wet and cold to dry and cold. Northern and northeastern temperatures will range from 10 to 18 degrees, emphasizing the need for warmth.
