美國近期公布有1顆中國大陸的高空偵察氣球侵入領空，並違反國際法，隨即利用F-22戰鬥機掛載響尾蛇飛彈(AIM-9X)將氣球擊落，此外，近期接連幾天都有不明飛行物闖入美國領空，就在美國展開調查時，大陸外交部反嗆，美國也是氣球監控慣犯，曾在2022年有10幾次飛入大陸領空，對此，美國副國務卿雪蔓強硬表態，堅持絕無此事。德州州立大學副教授翁履中今(14日)於《FOCUS世界新聞》中，接受主持人游皓婷線上訪問表示，「原本在去年11月的拜習會，讓各界感覺到中美關係稍稍降溫，不過近期的氣球事件，中美關係變成非常難掌握，目前雙方都互相指責彼此，而從美國方面來分析，可以從2個部分分析，行政部門的部分，拜登政府希望能夠採取鬥而不破的態度來處理美中關係，所以在回應中方的指控或中方的言詞，行政部門還是稍微有節制，希望保持未來的溝通管道暢通，不要撕破臉，但最大的變數在美國的立法部門，也就是在共和黨主導下的眾議院，現在的抗中氛圍非常高昂，如果立法部門表示出非常強勢的態度，將會對拜登政府造成壓力，也不會讓中美之間的問題降溫。」
