NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) has entered the final two years of his second term. A Tuesday (Dec. 10) poll revealed his approval rating reached 53%, while his disapproval rating dropped by 8% to 16%. Overall, Hou's current approval rating remains below the 61% recorded before he announced his presidential candidacy in March last year.
The TVBS Poll Center survey found that 62% of those aged 40 to 49 expressed satisfaction, a notable increase from a year ago. However, younger residents aged 20 to 29 showed the lowest satisfaction, with 37% expressing dissatisfaction compared to 31% satisfied. After his presidential bid with partner Jaw Shaw-kong (趙少康) last year, Hou returned to focus on municipal duties and aims to deliver results to New Taipei City residents. He expressed gratitude for public support and emphasized his commitment to creating a safer living environment in New Taipei City.
In addition to Hou's ratings, the poll found that 64% of New Taipei City residents feel proud of living in the city, and 62% reported happiness over the past year. Only 17% of respondents indicated they were unhappy. The poll, conducted from Nov. 13-19, involved 929 valid responses from New Taipei City residents aged 20 and above. It used a random sampling method of the last four digits of telephone numbers and was funded by TVBS.
