TAIPEI (TVBS News) — New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) spoke out on Sunday (Dec. 8) against alleged "foreign influence" on Taiwan's national security and democratic system. His comments came in response to a documentary featuring Chen Po-yuan (陳柏源), the original singer of the song "Zhong Guo Lao Zong" (中國老總), meaning "Chinese Boss," exposing how China allegedly bribes Taiwanese influencers.
Following Chen's revelations, Hou emphasized the importance of safeguarding Taiwan's sovereignty. In related news, former Legislative Yuan Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平) held a "Middle Way Peace Alliance" (中道和平聯盟) at the Taipei International Convention Center, where he introduced new cross-strait discourse and peace initiatives, prompting media to seek Hou's perspective.
Hou stated that cross-strait exchanges should adhere to the "Act Governing Relations Between the People of the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area" (兩岸人民關係條例) and stressed that exchanges must be equal, dignified, and friendly to progress toward peace. According to reports, Hou's remarks underscore Taiwan's ongoing commitment to maintaining democratic principles amid external pressures.
