NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Addressing the challenges of an aging society, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) urged the business community on Monday (Dec. 9) to retain high-performing senior employees. Mayor Hou's remarks came during the "New Taipei City Industrial Development Advisory Committee" (新北市產業發展諮詢委員會) meeting, where the city government presented policies on employment for middle-aged and senior workers.
Hou highlighted the city's ongoing initiatives, such as job redesign for older workers and employment subsidies. However, he acknowledged these efforts fall short, claiming that the impetus for promoting middle-aged and senior employment is still far from enough and should be strengthened. Hou emphasized that a shrinking labor force could undermine corporate competitiveness. He appealed to businesses, stating, "I also ask our good friends in the business community to help us more."
Hou reiterated the importance of senior employment as a crucial city government initiative. The administration plans to assist companies in fostering a supportive work environment, urging businesses to enhance guidance and strengthen employees' mental well-being.
