The 2023 Winter Lanyang Hot Spring Season in Jiaoxi Township, Yilan kicked off with a festive street parade carnival. Taiwan’s Premier and Deputy Minister attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Yilan County’s first social housing project. The Yilan County government has passed a proposal to increase the baby bonus in an effort to combat a declining birth rate. The bonus will be increased from NT＄12,000 to NT＄15,000 and is expected to take effect in 2024.

This year’s sixth typhoon, Typhoon Khanun, brought heavy winds and rain to Taiwan over the past week. The storm came closest to Taiwan late Thursday evening, resulting in a ＂typhoon day off＂ for the greater Taipei area and Yilan County. 

Typhoon Khanun is located in the sea east of Taipei on Thursday (Aug. 03) and is expected to move northwesterly. This weather disturbance will likely cause increased wave activity in Northern and Northeastern Taiwan, with storm impacts likely in Keelung, the North Coast, and the northern regions of Yilan.
