YILAN (TVBS News) — After the heavy rain caused by Typhoon Khanun, the police of Sansing Precinct in Yilan County Government's Police Bureau discovered illegal timber cutting on Sunday (Aug. 6), which added to their responsibilities.

While investigating a suspicious vehicle in the bed of Lanyang River, under the 93-kilometer point of Provincial Highway 7, officers found two loggers smuggling logs into the truck. The police seized two Taiwan Cypress slabs, three Formosan Cypress blocks, a batch of peeled Formosan Cypress branches, and the chainsaw used in the crime.

The two suspects, Chen and Tian, were sent to the Yilan District Prosecutors Office for investigation under the charge of illegal timber cutting. The police ask the public to report suspicious persons or vehicles spotted in mountainous areas to help secure forest resources.
