TAIPEI (TVBS News) —  Unstable spring conditions brought rain and cold temperatures to northern and eastern Taiwan on Thursday (March 6), the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported. Affected areas include Keelung's north coast, where heavy rain may occur, prompting residents to brace for potential landslides and falling rocks.

Strong northeastern winds are expected to persist through Friday night, with Penghu County facing gusts exceeding 11 on the Beaufort scale. Several regions, including New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Taitung County, might experience winds reaching gusts of 8 or more. Residents should take precautionary measures against these conditions.

Low clouds and fog reduced visibility to less than 200 meters in Taoyuan and Miaoli on Thursday morning. The CWA warned that such conditions might persist, advising caution for travelers in these areas. Daytime temperatures will remain chilly, with highs of 15-17 degrees Celsius in the north and northeast, while central Taiwan will see around 20 degrees. The south and Hualien-Taitung regions will have slightly warmer temperatures between 21 and 24 degrees.

The weather is expected to improve gradually starting Saturday, as the cold front weakens by Sunday, leading to a rise in temperatures. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather changes and dress appropriately to avoid catching a cold during this transitional period.
