TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) pledged on Tuesday (Dec. 31) to issue a banknote commemorating Taiwan's victory in the WBSC Premier12 championship. This announcement came during the opening press conference of the BEHIND THE CHAMPION exhibition (冠軍之路特展), where President Lai and head coach Tseng Hao-chu (曾豪駒) jointly raised the championship trophy.
President Lai revealed that during his recent visits to three allied nations, many overseas Taiwanese expressed pride in the national team's performance and appreciated their efforts in bringing glory to Taiwan. He highlighted the exhibition's centerpiece, a 12-kilogram trophy, describing touching it as electrifying and encouraging the public to visit.
President Lai thanked Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL, 中華職棒) President Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) and Chinese Taipei Baseball Association (棒球協會) Chairman Jeffrey Koo, Jr. (辜仲諒) for organizing the exhibition, which aims to showcase the arduous journey to victory.
He committed to featuring the championship team's image on the 500 New Taiwan dollar banknote and announced plans to release a commemorative coin, emphasizing his determination to fulfill these promises. Reflecting on Taiwan's spirit, President Lai stated that it is the result of the dedication and hard work of 23 million people across various sectors. The exhibition, which will offer insights into Taiwan's path to triumph, will open to the public on Jan. 1, 2025, at the National Taiwan Museum (國立台灣博物館).
