TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) joined Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. on Friday (Dec. 6) to inaugurate the "Palau Government Unified Office Building" (帛琉政府聯合辦公大樓). The ceremony underscored the enduring friendship between Taiwan and Palau.
President Lai expressed his delight in representing the Taiwanese people at this significant moment for Palau's public service. He noted that the new facility symbolizes the Palauan government's commitment to providing enhanced services to its citizens.
Lai also emphasized that the building not only improves service quality but also reflects the robust ties between the two nations, stating that the construction process faced challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, labor shortages, and material scarcity, yet its successful completion showcases the resilience of Taiwan and Palau in overcoming global adversities.
According to the president, Taiwan and Palau have weathered numerous challenges over the past 25 years, including typhoons, pandemics, and geopolitical shifts. Looking ahead, the two countries will collaborate closely in various fields to address climate change, digital transformation, and the expansion of authoritarianism, further solidifying their rock-solid partnership.
