TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) highlighted Taiwan's achievements in both the semiconductor industry and baseball during a Thursday (Dec. 5) banquet in Guam (關島), emphasizing Taiwan's recent victory over the United States in the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Premier12 games.
Lai's visit coincided with the Guam Legislature's approval of a friendship resolution, symbolizing the strong relationship between Taiwan and the U.S. The Taiwanese president attended the banquet alongside Guam's Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, her husband Jeffrey Cook, and Guam Legislature Speaker Therese M. Terlaje, with 30 tables set for the event.
Lai noted shared Austronesian cultural ties with allies such as the Marshall Islands, Tuvalu, and Palau, and U.S. regions like Hawaii and Guam, underscoring their pursuit of universal values like freedom, democracy, and human rights. At Governor Guerrero's residence earlier that day, Lai and the governor sang the national anthems of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the United States, and Guam's government song.
President Lai also highlighted their shared medical background and promised to enhance the welfare of both populations. President Lai also emphasized Taiwan's status as the 21st largest global economy, dominating 90% of the advanced semiconductor market, aiming to drive global economic prosperity.
