TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Temperatures across Taiwan will slightly rise as the continental cold air mass weakens, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) on Tuesday (Dec. 24). Rainfall is expected to ease in the afternoon, offering a reprieve from the morning's wet conditions in regions such as Taoyuan and the east.
Meteorologists noted that while the morning will be damp with short-term showers, the chance of rain will decrease later in the day. Daytime temperatures will range from 17 to 21 degrees Celsius, though mornings and evenings will remain cool. Residents are advised to dress warmly. Strong gusts of wind, ranging from levels 8 to 9, are likely in Hengchun Peninsula and Penghu, as well as in open coastal areas from Taoyuan to Yunlin, Orchid Island (蘭嶼), Green Island (綠島), and Matsu.
As of 2 a.m., the weakened Typhoon Pabuk is approximately 1,480 kilometers southwest of Cape Eluanbi (鵝鑾鼻). It continues moving toward southern Vietnam with a loose structure. The Ministry of Environment (MOENV, 環境部) forecasts good air quality in Hsinchu, Miaoli, Yilan, Hualien, Taitung, Matsu, and Penghu. Meanwhile, northern, central, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Kinmen will experience moderate air quality.
As weather conditions shift, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant regarding safety, particularly for outdoor activities near the coast.
