TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City (台北市) announced the closure of all evacuation gates and river levee ramps at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 1) in response to Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒), which may make landfall in southern Taiwan on Wednesday.

The Taipei City Government (北市府) expects increased rainfall for the next two days, prompting these precautionary measures.

The city government implemented a "one-way exit" control for all evacuation gates and levee ramps at 9 a.m., followed by towing operations starting at 1 p.m. Fines for vehicles not self-relocated include NT$4,800 for large vehicles, NT$2,400 for small vehicles, and NT$1,800 for motorcycles.

The city's Hydraulic Engineering Office (HEO, 台北市水利處) warned that upstream reservoirs have begun releasing water to regulate levels. If rainfall continues to intensify, further releases could cause river levels to rise rapidly, potentially flooding low-lying areas, urging residents to avoid river areas to ensure safety.

As the city takes measures to mitigate the impact of the storm, residents should stay informed and heed official warnings.
