TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei City Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Monday (Sept. 30) led a typhoon preparedness meeting in response to Typhoon Krathon (山陀兒), instructing the implementation of measures to stabilize vegetable prices.
The impending typhoon has caused a surge in vegetable prices, with leafy greens reaching a four-year high. Chiang noted that the prices of quality vegetables like bok choy, Chinese cabbage, and water spinach have exceeded NT$100 per kilogram.
He stated that the average price per kilogram has risen from NT$50.74 to NT$56.7, with significant increases in water spinach and Chinese cabbage prices. The city government will closely monitor supply and implement price stabilization measures.
Chiang directed the Department of Economic Development (產業局) to execute these measures, including releasing stored leafy greens and increasing supply through supermarkets and convenience stores. He emphasized the need for timely interventions to prevent further price hikes.
Meanwhile, preparations for the National Day celebration at Taipei Dome (台北大巨蛋) continue, with leak repairs underway. Chiang said the city has required the dome to complete repairs in larger affected areas by Oct. 4 to avoid water leakage.
When asked about the removal of street flags ahead of the typhoon, Chiang responded that the Department of Civil Affairs is monitoring the situation. He assured that if a land warning is issued, contractors will remove flags from major roads to prioritize safety.
