TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Authorities fined an interior renovation contractor NT$120,000 for unauthorized work at the Taiwan People's Party's (TPP, 民眾黨) central party office at the Taiwan Glass Building (台玻大樓) on Thursday (Sept. 26).
The Taipei Construction Management Office (北市建管處) cited violations of the "Building Act"(建築法) after discovering unapproved renovations.
The Taiwan Glass Building's third floor on Nanjing East Road submitted an interior renovation application on July 26, which remains under review. Inspectors visited the site on Aug. 27 and found discrepancies between the ceiling and partitions compared to the original blueprints.
Officials noted that the building had no prior records of renovation permits, prompting a review of related documents and statements.
On Friday, the office confirmed unauthorized renovations based on submitted evidence, including a statement of opinion and a project contract.
The Construction Management Office emphasized that contractors must possess relevant professional knowledge. They found the contractor engaged in unapproved work, leading to the NT$120,000 fine under the Building Act.
Taipei City Councilor Chien Shu-pei (簡舒培) of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) commented on the situation, stating that many members of the TPP have served in the Taipei City Government and should understand the regulations and laws. However, they failed to comply with the interior renovation management measures, which resulted in the contractor being fined.
