TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese actor Wu Kang-ren (吳慷仁) on Tuesday (Oct. 1) shared a People's Daily (人民日報) post on Weibo celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (中華人民共和國).
Wu, who signed a management deal with China's Easy Entertainment (壹心娛樂) a day earlier, added his message, "Blessings for a Beautiful China" (祝福錦繡中華).
Wu's post sparked mixed reactions among Chinese netizens. Some criticized him for what they perceived as ambiguous wordplay, questioning his reluctance to mention "motherland" (祖國) and suggesting his problematic stance. Others welcomed his gesture, saying his willingness to express his views at a critical moment was commendable.
Chinese state media, the People's Daily, marked National Day with celebratory posts featuring "I Love You, China" (我愛你中國) and urged followers to repost as a way of expressing patriotic sentiment. Taiwanese celebrities like Cyndi Wang (王心凌) and Ouyang Didi (歐陽娣娣) also participated.
