TAIPEI (TVBS News) — An American basketball player expressed on Thursday (Sept. 26) that he considers Taiwan his second home and still hopes for naturalization.
Julian Boyd, who previously played for the Formosa Dreamers (福爾摩沙夢想家), has transferred to the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots (桃園璞園領航猿) in Taiwan's P. LEAGUE+ for the new season.
The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (中華民國籃球協會) had listed Boyd as a potential naturalized player, and there were rumors he might don Taiwan's jersey in the Jones Cup (瓊斯盃國際籃球邀請賽). Unfortunately, Boyd missed the opportunity to participate in the event because he stayed with his wife for the birth of their child.
During a media day interview on Thursday, Boyd explained that he initially returned to the U.S. due to his child's birth. He later expressed his willingness to compete, but just two or three days before the Jones Cup began, the association informed him that some documents could not be processed in time, preventing his participation.
Boyd shared his eagerness to obtain a Taiwanese passport and achieve naturalization, stating that he likes the culture of Taiwan and that it would be a great thing to naturalize successfully.
