TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office (國台辦) announced on Wednesday (Sept. 25) that the Fuzhou–Xiamen high-speed railway (福廈高鐵) has reached the closest point to the Taiwan Strait, just 200 kilometers from Taiwan.
During a press conference, TAO spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) emphasized China's achievement in constructing and operating the world's largest and most advanced high-speed railway network. She noted that the total railway mileage has surpassed 160,000 kilometers, with 46,000 kilometers of high-speed rail.
Zhu invited Taiwanese people to experience the convenience of high-speed rail travel, which can cover thousands of kilometers in a single day. She warmly welcomed them to visit the mainland to ride the high-speed trains, enjoy the scenery, savor the food, and make friends.
In addition to recommending China's high-speed rail to Taiwanese people, Zhu expressed her belief that through joint efforts from both sides of the strait, this 200-kilometer distance will eventually be bridged, and the dream of people from both sides traveling across the strait by high-speed rail will come true.
