He also addressed military coercion in the South China Sea and reiterated the global need to support Ukraine until victory.
Biden urged global leaders to unite and remain optimistic about the future, reminding them that today's choices will determine the development of the next several decades.
He highlighted the recent U.S.-China cooperation to curb the flow of fentanyl and stressed the importance of responsibly managing competition to prevent conflict.
The U.S. president also vowed to continue strengthening alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, noting these relationships are foundational for a free, open, secure, and peaceful area.
Biden expressed optimism about an imminent ceasefire and hostage release agreement between Israel and Hamas, underscoring the U.S. commitment to preventing a larger war in the Middle East.
In addition, he pointed out Hezbollah's involvement in last year's rocket attack on Israel, emphasizing that full-scale war benefits no one. Amid the General Assembly, Israel and Hamas have been in conflict for nearly a year, with Israel launching a large-scale bombing on Hezbollah positions Tuesday, resulting in 558 deaths, including 50 children.
Reaffirming his alliance-centered foreign policy, Biden declared the world is at a turning point and that leaders' choices today will shape the future for decades. He reflected on his presidency, calling it "the honor of a lifetime" and announced his decision to let a new generation of leaders guide the U.S. forward.
