TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) warned on Tuesday (Sept. 10) that tropical disturbance 95W, located east of the Philippines, could intensify into Typhoon Bebinca (貝碧佳) by Wednesday (Sept. 11), possibly affecting the weather on Mid-Autumn Festival.
Lin explained that the high sea temperatures of 30°C or more and weak vertical wind shear in the northwest of the Pacific create favorable conditions for 95W to develop into a tropical depression and possibly a typhoon. He added that the Japan Meteorological Agency (日本氣象廳) predicts that Bebinca will move north-northwest, "very close to Taiwan."
However, the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction (美國國家環境預報中心) and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (歐洲中期天氣預報中心) suggest a more easterly path, keeping the storm farther from Taiwan. Due to the uncertainty, experts recommend continuous monitoring.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported that a low-pressure system near Taiwan brings high moisture levels, increasing the likelihood of intermittent showers in northern and northeastern regions. Hualien, Penghu, and Matsu may also experience scattered rain; residents should carry rain gear.
Temperatures across Taiwan will generally reach 32°C to 34°C, with some areas feeling even hotter when it's not raining.
