TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan faces increased moisture, leading to potential rainfall in the north and eastern regions on Monday (Nov. 18), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署). CWA attributes this to the northeast monsoon and the outer cloud system of Typhoon Man-yi, which, despite not directly impacting Taiwan, influences weather conditions.
Forecasters warned of extended rainfall in areas such as the north coast of Keelung and Greater Taipei's mountainous regions, with possible localized heavy rain. The eastern mountain areas should also prepare for similar conditions. The central and southern regions and offshore islands like Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu may experience brief showers.
Temperatures in the north, including Yilan and Hualien, will remain cool and damp, ranging from 19 to 24 degrees Celsius. Other regions will enjoy warmer daytime highs of 26 to 28 degrees, though nighttime lows will dip to 20 to 22 degrees. Matsu will stay cooler, with temperatures from 17 to 19 degrees.
The administration observed strong northeast winds, particularly affecting coastal areas from Miaoli to Yunlin and regions like Hengchun Peninsula (恆春半島), with gusts reaching levels 10 to 11. Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and other coastal regions face gusts up to 9 to 10. Large waves, as high as 4 to 6 meters, pose risks along the coasts and nearby seas. Long waves are likely to impact regions such as Keelung's north coast and the eastern and southwestern coasts.
