TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan and its outlying islands, including Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu, will experience mostly cloudy to sunny weather on Tuesday (Sept. 3), with scattered morning showers in the central and southern regions and localized thunderstorms in the afternoon, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署).
Due to the outer circulation of Tropical Storm Yagi (摩羯), moisture levels will increase in the evening, leading to more rain on the northern coast of Keelung, the eastern half of Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. The Greater Taipei area will also see localized showers.
At 2 a.m. today, Tropical Storm Yagi was located over Luzon. It is forecasted to move into the South China Sea, heading towards Hainan. The storm is unlikely to directly affect Taiwan.
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) explained that Tropical Storm Yagi will strengthen to a moderate typhoon as it moves westward but poses no direct threat to Taiwan.
We also warned that on Wednesday and Thursday, the outer moisture from Tropical Storm Yagi would bring localized showers to the eastern and southern regions, with afternoon thunderstorms in central and southern Taiwan.
From Friday to next Monday, increased moisture near Taiwan will result in more clouds and occasional showers, with the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the afternoons.
Wu revealed that the latest simulation from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) indicates another typhoon may form near Taiwan's east and south of Japan around Friday. However, the simulation’s uncertainty means it is too early to predict its impact on Taiwan, requiring ongoing observation.
