TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) announced on Wednesday (Aug. 21) that Taiwan's weather has returned to mostly sunny with cloudy intervals. However, some regions may still experience brief afternoon thunderstorms and localized heavy rain.
Temperatures will range between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius, with areas north of Taoyuan and parts of Hualien and Taitung potentially exceeding 36 degrees.
The CWA issued an orange heat alert for Taipei, while New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hualien, and Taitung received yellow heat alerts. The administration also noted the potential development of a low-pressure system north of Guam into Typhoon Shanshan, which would be the 10th typhoon of the year.
Meteorologist Hsieh Ming-chang (謝明昌) predicted that Thursday and Friday (Aug. 22-23) will see mostly sunny to cloudy weather with isolated brief thunderstorms. He said temperatures will generally rise to between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius. Hsieh further indicated that moisture levels will increase over the weekend (Aug. 24-25), leading to expanded areas of afternoon thunderstorms and the possibility of localized heavy rain.
The weakening of Typhoon Jongdari (雲雀) into a tropical depression as of 8 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 20) means it will no longer affect Taiwan's weather but will bring wind and rain to South Korea and North Korea.
Residents should prepare for high temperatures and stay updated on weather developments, especially with the potential formation of Typhoon Shanshan.
