Scorching temperatures hit Taiwan: CWA (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) warned of scorching temperatures and high UV levels across Taiwan on Wednesday (Aug. 28). Authorities predict temperatures ranging from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, with the Greater Taipei area potentially reaching 37 degrees.

The CWA noted that Penghu (澎湖), Kinmen (金門), and Matsu (馬祖) will experience clear, stable, and hot weather, with temperatures also hitting 34 to 36 degrees Celsius. Certain areas might even see higher temperatures.

Southwesterly winds will contribute to the intense heat, particularly in the Greater Taipei area, where UV levels could become hazardous before noon. The CWA also forecasted isolated short thunderstorms in mountainous regions during the afternoon, which could extend into the evening. People heading to these areas should stay alert to changing weather conditions.

Strong gusts are expected north of Hsinchu (新竹), along the northern coast of Keelung (基隆), and on Orchid Island (蘭嶼) and Green Island (綠島). The CWA advised caution in these areas. Additionally, nighttime and early morning fog or low clouds could impact visibility in Kinmen and Matsu, potentially affecting travel plans.

Residents should monitor weather updates and plan accordingly to avoid heat-related illnesses and travel disruptions.
