TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Presidential Office Spokesperson Lin Yu-chan announced on Monday (Oct. 9) that President Tsai Ing-wen has instructed the Air Force to accompany Taiwan's heroic athletes returning from the Hangzhou Asian Games.

The decision aligns with the precedent set during the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 20-day competition in Hangzhou concluded on Sunday (Oct. 8), with Taiwan securing an impressive 19 gold, 20 silver, and 28 bronze medals, amounting to a total of 67 medals.

The medal haul saw Taiwan finishing 6th in the overall standings.

This achievement surpassed the pre-Games target of 10 gold medals and equaled the gold medal tally from the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games. Moreover, the silver medal count exceeded that of the Bangkok Games.

Lin Yu-chan expressed gratitude from the president to all team members — including athletes and the logistical team composed of coaches, team staff, doctors, physiotherapists, athletic trainers, and administrators.

Although most athletes have already returned, Lin noted that the largest contingent will arrive at 9:30 p.m. that day.
