TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) issued a heat alert on Monday (April 21) for Pingtung County, warning of extreme temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Tainan City and Kaohsiung City received a yellow alert. Meteorologists forecast cloudy weather in the north and Hualien-Taitung regions, while other areas will experience sunny to partly cloudy skies.
Weather expert Hsueh Hao-tien (薛皓天) highlighted on social media that a frontal system is forming over southern China and gradually moving south. The southwestern winds in the Taiwan Strait will strengthen, but moisture levels will remain low for the next two days. Hsueh noted that Monday's temperatures in the north will range from 29 to 33 degrees, with slightly higher temperatures in central and southern regions.
Hsueh also warned that temperatures will rise significantly on Tuesday, with highs exceeding 30 degrees throughout Taiwan. Greater Taipei might see temperatures reach 35 degrees or higher. The CWA clarified that while temperatures are high, they do not surpass last year's late April record of 36 to 38 degrees. Complete data for this April will be available after the month ends.
Hsueh predicted unstable atmospheric conditions from Wednesday to Saturday, as a weather front and cloud systems from southern China impact Taiwan. The north will see increased cloud cover and potential showers, while the south will remain mostly sunny. Thursday will bring a noticeable temperature drop in the north and northeast due to the northeast monsoon. Rain is expected across Taiwan on Friday as the cloud system moves eastward.
