NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei District Court (新北地院) ruled early Wednesday (March 5) to release actor Darren Wang (王大陸) on NT$5 million bail. Authorities had detained Wang earlier for evading military service, which led to an unexpected discovery on his confiscated cell phone, where prosecutors found a video showing a taxi driver being assaulted, prompting further investigation.
The investigation revealed that Wang clashed with a taxi driver last year. He reportedly became upset over the driver's poor attitude and suspected detour, leading to a heated argument. Subsequently, Wang enlisted his friend Yu Hsiang-min (游翔閔) to confront the driver. Allegedly, Yu, possibly with gang affiliations, intercepted and assaulted the driver.
In response to these findings, the court decided to detain Yu without visitation rights. The unfolding legal proceedings have captured public attention, raising concerns about the influence of celebrities and their associates. Observers await further developments as the case progresses, with potential implications for Wang's career and legal standing.
