TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) urged the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛福部) on Monday (Feb. 24) to tackle the worsening emergency room congestion crisis. The Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine (台灣急診醫學會) had warned on Saturday (Feb. 22) that without improvement, the situation could lead to a mass resignation of emergency medical personnel.
During the meeting, the MOHW pledged to assist hospitals in adjusting medical staff, beds, and referral mechanisms. They also plan to share successful strategies from hospitals that have alleviated emergency room congestion. Vice Premier Cheng Li-chun (鄭麗君), Secretary-General Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫), Deputy Secretary-General Wang Kuei-lien (王貴蓮), and Minister of Health and Welfare Chiu Tai-yuan (邱泰源) also attended the meeting.
As the government takes steps to address the crisis, the public and healthcare professionals await further developments and hope for swift action to prevent further strain on Taiwan's healthcare system.
