TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Severe weather conditions swept across Taiwan on Tuesday (March 4) as a frontal system passed and the northeast monsoon strengthened, the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) reported. The administration anticipated localized short-term rain or thunderstorms and urged residents to watch for intense rain, lightning, and strong gusts.
Evening temperatures in northern Taiwan will drop to around 16 degrees Celsius. The CWA highlighted that from today through early tomorrow morning, the frontal system will continue impacting Taiwan, bringing more pronounced rain. Northern and central regions, along with Yilan and Hualien, are more likely to experience heavy rain, with the potential for intense downpours, lightning, and gusty winds. Officials advise the public to carry rain gear and exercise caution during outdoor activities.
Temperature forecasts indicate lows of 19-23 degrees across most areas, with southern and southeastern Taiwan expecting highs of 28-30 degrees. Northern and northeastern regions will see slightly cooler highs of 22-24 degrees, while central and eastern areas will experience 25-27 degrees. As cold air moves southward at night, temperatures will drop to 16 degrees in the north and 18-21 degrees elsewhere.
Weather expert Lin De-en (林得恩) noted on Facebook that Wednesday marks the "Awakening of Insects" (驚蟄), a Chinese solar term signifying the onset of spring. Tuesday's early morning thunder heralds the awakening and growth of nature, as hibernating animals stir to welcome the season.
