TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Meteorologists predict a significant weather shift in Taiwan starting Friday (Feb. 28), the 228 peace memorial day, with temperatures climbing above 30 degrees Celsius across the island.
Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), a weather expert, warns of fog formation in the western regions over the next two days and urges residents to limit outdoor activities due to poor air quality.
By the following Monday (March 3), Wu anticipates the arrival of a weather front, increasing rain chances and causing atmospheric instability. Meanwhile, meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) noted that the 228 holiday weekend will experience warmer temperatures due to a shift in wind direction from southeast to south. While most areas will enjoy partly cloudy to sunny skies, eastern and southeastern regions, along with the Hengchun Peninsula and Kinmen, may see brief, localized showers.
As the front advances early Tuesday, Wu predicts a significant drop in temperatures, exceeding a 15-degree decrease, accompanied by noticeable rainfall. The cold air will persist through Wednesday to Friday, with models suggesting a high probability of a "continental cold air mass" impacting the region.
After the holiday, Monday and Tuesday will see heightened rain chances across Taiwan, with heavier precipitation likely in western mountainous areas.
Residents should prepare for these abrupt weather changes, especially the sharp temperature decline and increased rainfall.
