TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The head of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIA, 工商協進會) on Friday (Feb. 21) urged the government to establish a "Team Taiwan" to prevent businesses from operating in isolation. CNAIA Chairman Wu Tung-liang (吳東亮) emphasized the importance of collective efforts to navigate the challenging international trade landscape.
U.S. President Donald Trump plans to impose tariffs on Mexico and other countries, prompting AI server manufacturers to increase investments in Texas. Wu highlighted that Trump's tariff threats extend to Taiwanese imports and neighboring countries like Canada and Mexico, suggesting these tariffs serve specific strategic objectives.
Wu believes Taiwanese companies should adopt proactive strategies, such as investing in the U.S., to secure market opportunities. Wu also recommended that Taiwan address its trade surplus with the U.S. by purchasing more American goods and increasing investments.
Furthermore, Wu advised companies to diversify their markets by expanding into Europe and Southeast Asia. Looking ahead to 2025, Wu expressed optimism about Taiwan's future, citing its advanced chip manufacturing technology as a key asset in the global supply chain. He asserted that Taiwan's development prospects remain promising.
